We publish carefully. That is the whole brief. Fewer things, but properly. These are the standards we hold ourselves to, and the ones you can hold us to.
Talk to people
Real ones. Named ones. On the record where we can. We would rather delay a story than build it on anonymous claims we cannot stand behind. When a source needs protecting we protect them, and we tell you why the name is missing.
Disclose everything
Conflicts, funders, commercial stakes, all visible where we can show them. If a piece is sponsored, it says so plainly. If we have an interest in what we are writing about, you will know before you finish the first paragraph.
Correct in public
A correction is more valuable to us than a scoop. When we get something wrong we fix it on the page, we date the change, and we do not quietly delete the mistake. Getting it right eventually is part of getting it right.
Slow before fast
A story should be worth the time it takes to read it. We are not trying to be first. We are trying to be worth reading, which usually means checking one more thing before we publish.
