Generate Conference London 2017
Our top design gals Zoe and Heather headed down to London for the Generate Conference for three days of creative workshops, seminars and world class speakers. Organised by net magazine, Creative Bloq and Web Designer magazine, and are curated by Oliver Lindberg. They absolutely loved it and would recommend to anyone in web or graphic design, no matter your level of experience.
We gathered some of the highlights below.
The Secret Life of Comedy
Espen Brunborg – Primate
A Norwegian designer, who Co-founded his Edinburgh based agency ‘Primate’, Espen started his talk with the ‘Genesis story’ of web design from html to current day. His talk focused on bringing comedy into web design which can make a real difference to a website user. He noted that current the web is become too generic, serious and lacking in personality so we can’t wait to see some more lighthearted sites crop up.
Interactive Web Animation
Chris Gannon – gannon.tv
A definite highlight for everyone who attended! Chris makes SVG animations for interactive objects in web site. He went through a list of the software he uses; abode illustrator & after Effects, Bodymovin and GreenSock if you fancy a play around creating your own. Some of his interactive animations include a fried egg toggle button, a balloon slider and an interactive eggs-ercise (below). This will rob you of far too much time (talking from experience…).
Canon Photography Workshop
Canon set up a workshop where we could use the latest canon equipment to take macro pictures of various insects. It was quite tricky to capture the almost camouflage insect in the setting. We managed to get a couple of shots and got to keep a SD card of our shots.

Designing Teamwork
Alison Coward – Bracket
A great one for the rest of our agency pals! Alison talk focused on team work in an agency and how this will help teams work to better together. She gave a number of tips:- including creating anonym idea boards to get the quieter team members involved and creating each team member a ‘how to work with me’ sheet. What do you think, would this work in your office?
Also, Heather only went and won herself an Amazon Echo in the conference competition!
We love attending events like Generate! Getting the opportunity to speak to experts from all over the world and bring home some new ideas for our Adeo clients.
